Understand Your Satellite Connection
There are five elements to the satellite connection within your unit
1. The fiber cable coming into your unit carrying the communal satellite signal in the form of laser light.
2. The GTU is a box on the wall where the fiber cable carrying the communal satellite signal connects to. This box requires power from either your satellite receiver or the AC wall socket. The function of the GTU is to convert the satellite signal received from the fiber cable (a laser light) into a SHF (super high-frequency) RF (Radio Frequency) satellite signal that can travel short distances along a copper coaxial cable. There are one of two types of GTUs that may be installed in your unit.
a. Quad GTU which has a single fiber input port and four legacy satellite RF output ports. You are able to connect legacy receivers/decoders directly to any of these four RF output ports using a standard F-F coaxial flylead. (Legacy decoders include: DSD 1131, 1110, SDPVR & HDPVR 2P). If you have an Explora or a newer satellite receiver/decoder that has a SatCR satellite input connection you will require a MUD switch in order for your satellite receiver/decoder to operate correctly.
b. DScR GTU which has a single fiber input port and two Legacy/SATCR RF output ports. This GTU allows you to connect both legacy and SatCR satellite receivers/decoders directly to either of the two satellite RF output ports using a standard F-F coaxial flylead.
3. The MUD Switch converts the legacy satellite signal received from the four outputs of the Quad GTU into a SatCR signal which is compatible with satellite receivers/decoders having either a legacy or SatCR satellite input.
4. The satellite receiver/decoder or set-top box receives, amplifies, converts, and decodes the satellite signal, confirms a valid subscription if applicable, and converts the signal into audio and video, HDMI or UHF (Ultra High Frequency) RF signals that can be connected via the appropriate fly lead to your television set/flat screen/monitor.
5. Your Television set/flat screen/monitor converts the signal received via either AV, HDMI, or UHF RF signals into a video signal that can be displayed on the screen and audio component that is fed to the speaker or sound system.
Note: Only DSTV South Africa and OVHD services are available.
Terms & Conditions
Before you book a service call, ensure you understand the following:
